About Us
Commonlight Legal is a private public interest law firm serving do-gooders in New York, D.C., Connecticut, and Massachusetts. Founded five years ago to serve nonprofits, we now provide high-quality, cost-effective legal services tailored to meet the unique needs of several types of tax-exempt entities, small businesses, and community leaders.
If you’re doing good work,
we’re here to help you do it well.
Our Culture
We aren’t just helping do-gooders—we are building a better law firm.
We care about being useful and making the world a better place. We care about people. We care about doing our work well.
If we don’t know something, we seek to learn it. We believe in constantly evaluating ourselves and our systems to ensure that we are delivering the best and most cost effective results for our clients.
We are flexible — we meet people where they are at and work with them to design a schedule that works for them, whether contractors or full-time employees, without sacrificing the ability to collaborate as a team and deliver effective results for our clients.
We offer livable salaries and contracting agreements that are competitive within the public interest space. For our full-time employees, we offer affordable health benefits.
We have robust time off and family/medical leave policies and a generous holiday schedule, because we believe in rest and the importance of having a rich life outside of work. Work is rewarding but also a means of living the lives we seek.
Despite the distance and our remote environment, we feel like a tight-knit community. We care for and support each other. We trust and rely on one another.
We communicate clearly and often. Everyone stays in the know and can rely on one another to get the job done so that every piece easily falls into place. We each feel empowered to own our own projects and make improvements and important decisions that reflect Commonlight values and principles.
